Gym was pretty busy today. Treadmills were full, so I spent 10 minutes on the stairmaster (fuck that noise, I can barely walk!) and then quickly moved over to a bike. Did 20 minutes on the bike.

The stairstepper was hard to maintain a pace low enough to keep the pace I wanted - I've been trying to keep a steady heartrate of 130 for 30 minutes. My "natural" pace on the stairsteppet was way too fast, averaging 150. There's no way I could keep that up for 30 minutes. Plus, the upper-body bars don't monitor your heart, so I can either work my upper body, or check what sort of pacing I've got. I'm just not familiar enough with the machine, or in good enough shape yet.

The bike, by comparison, felt like less of a workout for 20 minutes, even though I maintained a perfect average of 130 and did about 4 miles, I don't feel like I exercised at all. Maybe this is because my thigh muscles are so deeply stressed by the stairmaster that I can't feel anything else by comparison.

At any rate, it's been one solid week of exercise! I'm really hoping I can keep this up, and I'm also wondering if I should step it up yet. My "typical" treadmill experience has been a 30 minute routine at a max of 3.0mph, with an incline of 5. Three mph is really a "powerwalk" though. Maybe I should push myself up to 3.5 mph already?

Oh, and it turns out that the yoga center has a 4-week long biweekly beginner's program that actually fits into my schedule, starting on May 4th. While I know a lot of the asanas, I don't know their specific routines, and they do some breathwork stuff that is unusual to me. Really wide mix of skill levels in the 10:30 slot, too. People who will never be as flexible as me, and people who have clearly been doing yoga for a very long time. The instructor is super-hot in that "hippy tree-hugger" kind of way, too. Mmm. I <3 well-bathed hippy women.

So, I have no idea what I was thinking yesterday when I said that I was going to run for 30 minutes IN ADDITION to doing a yoga workout for 90 minutes. Read more... )

Yesterday, I ran 1.33 miles in 30 minutes on the treadmill (settings: 3.0 mph, incline 5, "forest trail" routine). Today, I'm going to the Sivenda Yoga center (finally) and will be doing 90 minutes of yoga, possibly followed by 30 minutes on the stair-stepper.

I want to really focus on endurance conditioning, but I'm not sure if the stair-stepper is a good "alternate" for the treadmill. I know you're supposed to alternate muscle groups.

Later today, I plan to write out all the things that I want to do with my day and/or week, and try to see if there are actually enough hours in the day to do everything, even assuming that I was disciplined enough to do them.

And I really need to find time for a proper blog entry about my current emotional state.

So first off, Happy Diwali, everyone. a few bits about Diwali )

Curiously, today is also the day all of my recent internet purchases have arrived.  A Raku  pot I ordered at GenCon (broken, unfortunately), my DDR pad and my yoga DVDs. A small collection of DVDs I bought to test my degree of addiction. Another piece of The Quiet Plan. A CD that was on backorder since Gaian Mind.

Even more oddly, yesterday nearly every device I regularly use lost power: my memo recorder, my CD/mp3-disc player, my iPod (which needs reformateding now), and worst of all, Maggie. How does Maggie run out of power? I left her with some valet parking and they had to ask me to walk up to her to help them find the battery to jump her. What did they do to my little baby? Manors won't even tell me, he just smiles wickedly, like it's punishment for something I did wrong.

Of course, I have had no time to restore power to my battery-operated life-aids, nor will I have time to begin my exercise plans, since I must immediately Away to the northern suburbs to spend the night in prayer, punctuated with arguments with my mother, who will undoubtedly want to set me up with A Nice Indian Girl, and discussions with my brother over all the ways in which I could easily Get Rich Quick.

Disturbing thought: On Saturday, my parents will discover that I've been working with nude models. Oh, that's going to be fun.

Anyway, I must find some time to schedule to figure out how to schedule my new exercise regiment. And buy groceries. I'm getting really sick really getting sick really getting really sick I am very tired of eating leftovers, although I suppose I should be grateful that I never learned how to cook for less than four.

At any rate, this means that I'll definitely need to be getting up even earlier than before, so I need to rework my morning schedule (which I haven't been following, anyway). Perhaps I should establish a Nightly Routine, too, so that I can try to get a decent night's rest from now on. I don't know when's the last time I got more than four hours.

Piss and bother, all I really know is that I need to edit two photos and print them four times, and double- and triple-check that my website is finished.

It would be very nice if people told me what they thought of the new site, and if it works on their computers.

Due to the bizarre laws of economics, it is cheaper for me to buy online a stone 11" deep dish pizza pan than it is to buy a restaurant-style 14" non-stick, despite an apparent difference of over 10 lbs.

The Non-stick pan would have shipped without the free shipping option, or any kind of discount. ($25.21 plus $16.75 in shipping). The stone one is actually less expensive as well, but qualifies for free shipping, since I'm also buying the yoga DVD.

For some reason, it didn't hit me until just now that buying the pizza pan and the yoga DVD is a metaphorical equivalent to "Double Quarter Pounder with a Diet Coke."
