So, I have no idea what I was thinking yesterday when I said that I was going to run for 30 minutes IN ADDITION to doing a yoga workout for 90 minutes.
Man, that yoga routine kicked my ass and did funny things to my spine. I'm so horribly out of shape, it hurts. In a very literal sense. I guess I'm just so used to yoga that focuses on gaining flexibility that I've completely forgotten about yoga that is actually yoga, and not just stretching.
And now I'm once again uncertain about what to do for my exercise routine. My primarily goal is to increase aerobic conditioning and endurance (in more plain language, I want to be able to f*ck longer without running out of breath). Secondary goal is to increase flexibility (f*ck in new and bendy ways). Third goal, weight loss and physique improvement (look better while f*cking).
The Sivenda yoga rountines, then, sort of fill the 3rd place goals and some of the 2nd place goals. Except...it also fulfills all these other goals I didn't even know I had. Like "re-integrating my body with my spirit."
And then, after the comments from yesterday's post, I realize that I can totally accomplish strength conditioning while also increasing my endurance, depending on what endurance training I'm doing. The stairmaster stuff, for example, will really increase my thigh and calf strength in a way that I hadn't considered. And cycling works an entirely different set of muscles. I'm sure rowing counts as an endurance training too.
So...for right now, I'm going to alternate 3 days of running with 2 days of yoga. But I think once I get used to exerting myself regularly, I'll switch over to the stair-stepper while I have access to the gym here at home, and see what I can manage while on the road. But this program doesn't include any flexibility training.
Now, I could add a 20-minute stretching routine to my running days (thank you, @jbdules, for those DVD suggestions), but this gets me once again thinking about all the things that I WANT to commit to doing daily but am probably overbooked for:
(sorted from "already doing daily" to "already doing but not daily." Does not include the things I want to do but haven't even started yet, like Arnis, mountain climbing, going to burns, camping, etc. Most of those aren't daily events anyway).
