Just a few relatively cool moments this week after the rocky start it got off to:
Wednesday was Cave Dwelling Eyes's birthday. Out of the six or seven people who were there, about half of them were born in Eastern Europe. We played Truth or Dare at the end of the night, only the Bulgarian girl called it Brave Or Honest. I don't know if that was a mistranslation or what they call it over there, but I like the term much better. Instead of asking, "Truth or Dare?" you get to look someone in the eye and ask them, So, do you want to be Brave or do you want to be Honest?
Thursday, my digital imaging class had our midterm critiques, which included mural-sized prints. I'd meant to print mine on Monday but got distracted, so I had not seen what it looked like until everyone else did, too (which is kind of funny to say, since I've been editing it for nearly two weeks). The print turned out awesome, a 4-square-foot diptych of light paintings, and my entire class couldn't stop raving about it. While discussing it, my professor displayed a degree of familiarity with my work that was, frankly, shocking.
On the way home, my building manager called, sounding very awkward. "All of the apartments are currently rented, but I have some people coming to see some tomorrow. Since you have the nicest looking apartment in both buildings, I was wondering if i could show them yours?" Possibly one of the best compliments I've had all year. Unfortunately, my apartment was a total wreck since I'd been preparing for the midterm project deadlines, so I stayed up all night cleaning, pausing to catch the midnight show of V for Vendetta at the IMAX at Navy Pier with Bluebeard. I really liked the movie, a nice blend of entertainment and political relevance. I almost got my head shaved as part of their promotional gimmick, but my usual worries about looking like a Hare Krishna got the best of me.
Class on Friday was really disappointing, and very tiring. CDE and her out-of-town guests wanted to go clubbing tonight, but I fell asleep as soon as I got home and only just woke up.
