Possibly one of the stupidest questions I have ever seen on OKC:

Suppose there exists an omnipotent God. This God comes to you one day and says it is essential that he become human for the day and you take his place. At the end of the day, do you give God back his job, or remain God for some longer period of time?

  • Give it back; I couldn't usurp God's position
  • Give God back his job; I wouldn't want it
  • Stay God; I'd be an awesome omnipotent ruler
  • Stay God; I couldn't do much worse, could I?

How would your Ideal Match answer this question?
  • Give it back; I couldn't usurp God's position
  • Give God back his job; I wouldn't want it
  • Stay God; I'd be an awesome omnipotent ruler
  • Stay God; I couldn't do much worse, could I?

How important is their answer to you?
  • Irrelevant
  • A little important
  • Somewhat important
  • Very important
  • Mandatory

um, the answer must always be that you would send god to hell for an eternity (only one). Beyond that, you eventually find someone else to fill the place only if god won't send you to hell for an eternety. It's like the GPL (soon to be on version 3). You just don't question these things.

Look, if God gives you total license to rule the universe, fuck that guy. Make a pact with whomever you need to and go from there. Get that guy out of the fucking picture. I mean, is he doing such a good job in the first place!?

meh.

Yeah, see, I'm a Hindu. I'm still confused by the idea that "God would need to stop being God and be human for a day," when he's already every single being in the universe.

This entire question can only be answered if you presume God is something entirely external and removed. Fuck that noise.

good point.

and i will admit that even though i am not a christian, i did have a christian upbringing. this is where my answer comes from in analogy. but in principal i am neither christian nor hindu nor anything else. my point is: fuck that noise altogether.

god is god.... whatever.

hi by the way.

this bothered me enough that i felt the need to reply twice. sorry.

i just want to emphasise that my second response is meant to be in context with my first response. which were both meant to agree with you in terms of "external and removed-ed-ness".

the question, from my point of view is even more absord. to me god both does and does not exist. to me, there is no god. i am god. and so are you. is that hindu?! I mantain not. because ultimately the question in my minde is entire mute.

but fun to ask people sometimes...

When I was twelve, my swami told me there were only two prerequisites for being a hindu:

1) You have to belive in the existence of God, which is to say, an overall direction to the events of the universe.

2) You have to like him/her/it.

If those two things are true, then you're Hindu.

when he's already every single being in the universe.

Haha. Took me years to understand that one. Years.

Yeah, that's a thought that's always confused me. It's what I was always raised to believe. I grew up understanding that metaphor is just another reality that exists along top of all the other realities.

We Catholics don't have metaphor. Nope. That's a sin.
*snort*

Okay, not really. We just have a problem implementing our beliefs into everyday life. Gah, I shouldn't even be saying "we," what the hell!?

I think the question is completely idiotic. If this version of God is omnipotent, why can it not be human and be God at the same time? It shouldn't be outside the realm of its power -- it's frickin' omnipotent, fer crissakes.

Besides, it got itself into this mess, it can get itself back out again without me. :p

I contend that those answers are crap because they do not have the option of feeling that one is uniquely suited to show God how to rule like a maniacal totalitarian.

I'm not as disturbed by the question itself as the evident false profundity of its author, who presumably uses Jim Carrey movies (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0315327/) as a catalyst for philosophical inquiry.

I'm disturbed that his question, along with the ones I've submitted which have less than 40% approval value, are still active, while my question about how you handle child rape, which got a 90% approval, was retired after two months.

Well, you know. These sites are run by college kids.

Or, wait--they used to run TheSpark? That was, like, 1998 or something, wasn't it? So these sites are run by people who just never got out of that college mentality.

I bet they have those frizzy fake afros, like all the other hipsters. Except they're, like,...thirty.
