The other pro photographers I talk to keep telling me that it's okay, that I'm not going to get called back immediately. That I should expect it to take a little while to sink in. They say, "just be sure to stay productive." It's only been ten or twelve days on the job, not counting the conventions (which is a problem, right there). I haven't even received the mailers I ordered yet.
So I try to put in at least 8 hours a day into the task of becoming a better commercial photography assistant. Only, what counts? If I listen to interviews with other photographers while washing my dishes, does that count? How many hours do I really spend researching visual styles online, and how many are spent drooling in front of a screen that I barely register? Should I count the time spent setting up my DBA, calculating my CODB, and reading all the books that talk about those acronyms and why I need them for a successful business? Do I get to count the minutes that I spend counting how many hours I've worked today?
And, hey, how much time have you spent making better photographs?
God dammit all. Where did I put my camera....
