How can it be the same game if everyone's playing by their own set of rules?

Okay, so I got this girl's phone number on Thursday night, possibly the first time that's ever happened to me. Certainly the first time it's ever happened when I've been single, and with this new, half-formed set of rules to my life.

As with nearly everything in my life, I spend a horrendous amount of time worrying about trivial details beforehand (I tremble before), and must have called a dozen people to ask for advice.

Seeing that the number was area code 708, I decided to call her late-afternoon Saturday, on the off chance that she might be heading into the city later that night. I got her answering machine, and am fairly sure that I sounded like a complete feeb. I even mispronounced her name *groan*. In the message, I told her I'd try again Sunday night and left my digits.

I didn't get back to my apartment Sunday until around 10:30, and got her answering machine again. Told her I had a fairly full week, but that I'd probably try contacting her before the next weekend.

My temptation is to call a third time, possibly on Wednesday, and if I get her answering machine again, just leave my number and tell her to call me. She gave me the number unasked, so clearly she was interested (at least while she was at the club) and hopefully will be still interested enough to call. I'm trying very hard to convince myself that I am spending a lot more time thinking about those two messages than she will.

Advice, please, for Vishnu's sake?
