fantasies and dreams
9 August 2005 17:48The plural of "fantasy" looks funny.
Excerpt from my counseling session today (tangent: I have too many counseling sessions and not enough counciling sessions)
"What would be your fantasy social occasion? Friends, not a date."
Oh, it's the same one I've had for years. Ten, maybe fifteen friends get together around 6 or 7 and we have dinner. Half of us are in the kitchen, cooking. They hand each other spices and chopping blocks and reach over each other to stir pots. The rest are lingering nearby, drinks in hand, talking. There's music playing, a mix CD someone made for someone else. We eat, still chattering over our food and the music. Maybe we play some board games.
Then, around 10 or 11, we each sneak into the bathroom and come out dressed in all our Club Scene Finery. When we're all assembled, we Dance The Boingo and head out clubbing. We dance and drink, and shout over the music. We run into other friends. We hop from club to club, the group getting larger and louder until finally it's 5am, and somebody suggests food. We all head out to a diner, or maybe somebody's house.
Yeah, we head out to somebody's house and we all sit around, telling funny and embarrassing stories about each other while a small crew cooks up a giant plate of scrambled eggs and other breakfasty goodness. Somebody pops in a movie as we all chow down, and one by one, they all fall asleep while I sneak about emptying ashtrays and cleaning dishes.
Exhausted, I start looking for somewhere to lay down and a girl, not a girlfriend or romantic interest or anything, just a good female friend wakes up a little, and pulls me down to sleep next to her, our limbs all entwined. When they wake up, they wonder who cleaned up, and my friend and I exchange a secret look as I distract them with inside jokes and old favorite stories.
It seemed like a good idea for a meme.
