Thorn Chain gets credit for this one. Perhaps I should work her in.
So, instead of the confusion I got into with my earlier idea for the Knight Polishing Armor storyline, Thorn Chain suggests that Iggy be frustrated with something, and go for a walk, and meet the Old Man polishing the scratches off his armor. He tells the old man that he doesn't see scratches, but sees an engraving depicting the old man's life. As he does so, he realizes a parallel between the old man polishing his armor and the thing that Iggy was frustrated with.
I'm thinking I should add this in to the short story about the Pretty Things, and that I should include Thorn Chain in the story as well, perhaps whispering the wisdom into Iggy's Ear. Still need to name the Old Man and work out some other, more nebulous bits. Expect a first draft soon.
In the other mythology I'm working on, the methodical conversion of
cusm's and
phraugie's toy collection into a coherent fictional setting, I have decided that Miss Kitty Blanket should be an oracle of some kind. I want to make her full title some kind of pun on The Oracle of Delphi. Senor Frog Blanket then naturally falls into place as a magician of some kind (need to decide, and amusingly, I want to give him an Outrageous French Accent), envious of Miss Kitty Blanket's oracular powers. Whenever I include the one, I will include the other, and they will show that the way we handle envy is by remembering to count our own virtues. It is particularly important to note that Senor Frog does not handle his envy poorly. He handles it well, and teaches by example. Unlike our two main deca-pede (like centipedes, only with fewer legs!) villians, Envy and Greed, who teach that to act as they do is to be The Bad Guy.
