The United States Supreme Court today ruled that it was legally allowable for governmental entities to confiscate privately-owned property under Eminent Domain, when the reason for such confiscation is specifically and solely to turn said property over to a commercial entity.

The Story

Anyone who thinks the government is paying even lip service to the Constitution anymore should have all the proof they need that they're wrong.

United States Constitution, Amendment 5, Ratified December 15, 1791:

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Actually, in some sort of bizarre grown-up version of that "Opposites Day" thing kids do, the right-wingers had the right idea on this one...and they got shot down. The four dissenting justices are all on the conservative end of the Supreme Court bench.
