Tattoo thoughts
21 February 2010 04:35I can feel the urge growing inside me, the need for more ink. I thought I would be content with the two I have, but....this thought keeps tickling at the back of my head and won't go away.
A while ago, a woman in sandals got into an elevator with me. I glanced down at her feet and noted her tattoos. Across the top of her left foot, it said, "Forgive." Across the right, it said "Forget."
With every step, huh?
It took her a second to catch up with my train of thought and then she smiled and said, "And one step at a time."
You know, if you wrote that across the bottom, they'd fade away with every step you took toward that goal.
"It's not that easy for me. They'd fade too quickly." We reached her floor, and she got off the elevator. I never saw her again, but the duality of ink lingered in my mind.
Then, recently, I met another woman who had inked across her biceps, "Learn" on one, "Unlearn" on the other. On her biceps, man! The muscles that do all the heavy lifting for her.
The thought keeps lingering. A pair of tattooed words, life lessons inked on my skin so I don't forget. It seems so vital.
I just can't figure out which words, or where.
