amulOn top of everything else, I've decided enough is enough, and I'm revamping the AiR darkroom, including installing my own enlarger and other equipment there. I simply cannot be expected to create art after a 40-minute El ride with all the particular tools I need to produce black & white photos. The only real question is when I'll find the time this weekend to drive up to my parents' place and pick up the stuff.
Don't fool yourself, this has as much to do with getting it out of storage and within grasp as it does being able to use it.
Also, I finished that god-awful can of Foldgers coffee grounds, so I now have the body to what will be, at some point, my pinhole camera. In typical Amul fashion, even though I've never built a simple one, I have a grandiose idea for what I want to build.
I've always wanted a 360-degree camera, so I'm going to build one out of the can. My current plan is to angle the pinholes in such a way that they project below the vision plane. I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to do that part, just yet, but it means that instead of a standard shutter, I'll be using a sleeve of some kind.
The other tricky part is how to thread the film. There's a guy with a much more K.I.S.S. designed version using a hexagonal camera, which would certainly save me a lot of headache. In his version, there's a central shaft which houses the film. This would also be a lot easier to load, and I could probably come up with a film-winding mechanism. Possibly using Legos, just for style points.
The thing that's really holding me back is simply that I don't know how far away the hole has to be from the film plane in order to produce an appropriate sized image. I need some numbers. Oh, and I know just where to get them from....
