As I drifted off to sleep, I began to dream. More like to say, I began walking down a corridor towards a dream. I glanced through a side door in the descending darkness, and caught a glimpse of full, brown hair, and overly large jeans. I awoke, with a start, recognizing her as Christine.

I didn't see her face, but did catch a pale inch of cheek between the falls of hair. I struggle to remember the brief glimpse, writing this down. There was no detail in the bit of face that I saw, just a head full of hair and a pair of familiar flannel-lined jeans. Truth be told, I cannot even remember if I dreamed a torso, hands. It's gone now completely.

Still, it's the most I've conjured up, these 11 months since I saw her last. Sixteen, I think, since the end of things. Roo tells me she's still dating the same man she was when Roo and I last spoke.

I want to bite deep into the Big Meat Of Life. Just make sure it isn't over-cooked. "Rare" implies dangerously overcooked. I just want you to SHOW the lamb the oven, and then bring it out to me!

Class took a field trip to the MCA, to check out the Dan Flavin: A Retrospective exhibit.

Flavin's works consist of fluorescent tubes arranged in stark geometric patterns. Half of the piece is the title, which is usually Untitled (something prosaic). For example, Untitled (to Jan and Ron Greensberg) and Monument 4 for those who have been killed in ambush (to PK, who reminded me about death).

It's hard not to compare Flavin to James Turrell, with his monumental Roden Crater project and other, nigh-epic works of art. Granted, we can't ALL be James Turrell (although, gods, what a world we'd live in if even the least of us had half his vision and humility), and there's a certain Art Deco, minimalist quality to Flavin's works that I find appealing.

I think we could all use a little more Deco in our lives.
