More Monkey Moments
31 January 2011 22:36"What's in this box?" asks the five year old boy, who has been bouncing off the walls all morning with his need to play with me.
Oh that's a....well, it's kind of a candy. It's from....it's made of cashews and pistachios, and sugar. Lots of sugar. It's a kind of sweet.
Monkey's face lights up. "Can I have one?"
Sure! It's one of my favorites, and I brought it for Ganesha, who loves sweets like that--
"He sure does!"
But I've already fed him a bunch, so if you want to try one, you can.
"Oh, boy! Do you know what, Uncle Amul? I love sweets! I think they're my favorite thing in the world. Do you want one too?"
Thank you very much, Monkey. That was very nice of you. I really like these. They're called "burfi," and they're....what's the matter, Monkey?"
"I think this might actually be a little TOO sweet for me."
He goes outside, and runs into Mirage. She asks, "Oh, did you not like that?"
Monkey replies, very calmly, "It was very sweet."
The idea of food that is too sweet for Monkey appears to be novel to Mirage. She suggests, "So, is it the kind of thing Ganesha would like?"
"Yes, but Ganesha doesn't like already-bitten food. But the chickens do!" And with that, Monkey tromps off to the chicken pens.
