quick update
5 April 2006 18:45The Photo Crit last night was awesome. I got some much needed, extremely helpful input on the Projection work. Before I left, I dropped off a few rolls of film of Prefers Sacrifice, more projection work.
I just picked the film up, and it looks like my camera loves me again! Ah, yes, I bask in the sweet bliss of marital tranquility once more. I could instantly see a difference between the latest roll of film and the last several, and having the Crit fresh in my head was just unbelievable. I could see the things they were talking about, how I've been fumbling in the dark, but headed in a general direction. Had this been just last week, it would have taken me hours to select the best of the set, but now that I've answered questions which I never thought to ask myself, it all just clicked into place.
No wonder I wanted to start making masks, no wonder Sophie's work in the mask was so compelling to me while other masks left me disappointed! The other masks were Mardi Gras masks, while the one Sophie wore was a neutral mask!
I haven't been straying into foreign territory, I've been heading back to my roots. It's all so clear in my head, the mask designs, the poses, the obsfucation from macro work, the profound difference between creating work that looks staged and works that are On A Stage. My gestural photos, my drawings, they've all been leading somewhere and I can finally see the clearing.
This is such an amazing relief to me, I'm having a hard time expressing it.
I noticed several other decidedly profound changes in my newest work. Particularly, a willingness to confront the model that had been lacking all winter. It's also evident that I've finally become comfortable with the sensuality of the projection work, neither seeking it too boldly nor shying away from it too far.
This is what's been preventing me from seeking more models, particularly male ones. Hey,
resi! Do you still read this stuff? I'm talking about you, here.
Oh, gods. My camera loves me again. It's going to be one hell of a spring!
