Notifications?!

I just discovered that LJ has a "notification" tool. I always knew that you could set LJ to email or IM you when someone replies to your posts or comments. Apparently, you can ALSO set it to email you a notification whenever someone posts an entry in their LJ -- very useful for those friends of mine who rarely post.

Thing is, the only way I know how to find it is by accessing their profile, clicking Modify Friend, and making an adjustment to the privacy filters they are on. Once I save the modification, it takes me to the "Friend Added" page, where you'll see a "notify me when..." option or something like that. VERY cumbersome.

Did everybody already know about this? Is there any easier way to set such notifications?

yeah...but I don't think that is one of the ones you can change there.

You can change all kinds of things, and it's worth a visit to your Notifications tab...but I don't see a way to add a friend to that.

So far I suspect that the cumbersome way may be the only way...but I'm still looking. :P

ETA: found it! see other comment

mwahahahaha you have been revealed as an LJ skimmer! :)

I suspect this because I have similar comprehension fails on half my friends list on a regular basis...and it is the half I skim. ;P

Ok...go to their profile: click "track user" and it will give you a short screen with options for notification. Check what you want, click save, and you're done! :)

Still cumbersome, but better than the method you were using.

Feeds

I've set up my livejournal as feeds in Google Reader. Every time a new posting occurs on a livejournal site of interest, I am notified in reader. It's a great time saving way to organize my reading material. It means that everything comes to me. I don't need to check a gazillion sites for the porn that I want and need. :) Using feeds either atom or rss helps me to organize information.
