Where is that from?

I have this image in my head of an old fable being retold by Disney. Mickey Mouse has just killed three flies and he sticks his head out the window and shouts out, "I killed three in one blow!" Unfortunately, the townsfolk outside his window were talking about what to do about the giant that's been rampaging around the countryside.

What story is that?

I know that one!!
But I'm drawing a blank..
It's got aprentice in the title that's all I can remember right now.

And what a strange image to have in your head:P
Wonder what brought that on?

It's actually Seven in one blow, IIRC. Hold on... google Fu time...

The Brave Little Tailor. There's a bit of a mix up when Mickey is bragging about killing seven flies with one swat, and someone was asking about giant killing. So they all think Mickey the Tailor is a giant slayer, and send him off to kill a giant that's terrorizing them. Or some such. I used to have this as a disney sstory book when i was a kid...

Yup, Brave Little Tailor.

Some versions of this story are interesting, in that there's a lot more to it. My daughter has a huge book on Celtic myths and legends in short story form, and this story (or a similar one) was in there that went beyond giant-slaying.

Watch what?

Brave Little Tailor.

I could be wrong, but I do believe it was a Grimm's fairy tale first. I'll have to go check in my big book o'Grimm tales.

Funny thing...

In a strange turn of events...I channel amul's LJ from Annapolis, MD. I was actually just thinking of this exact fairly tale yesterday. (while not having actually read LJ in 5 days or so) Interestingly...I was not thinking of the beginning part. The confrontation with the giant where the tailor sqeezes some cheese and makes the giant think it's a rock is the image stuck in my head. Amul...get out of my head.

Why is it that I've forgotten things like the cheese bit, but can still remember all the mazes from Super Mario Bros?
